THE ROLE OF GENERAL («ALIMENTARY») TOLERANCE MECHANISMS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF CONCURRENT DAMAGE TO BORDERLINE TISSUE STRUCTURES (ORAL CAVITY, SKIN) AND THE COLON IN PSORIASIS
Abstract
The aim of the study is to determine the significance of disruptions in factors of alimentary tolerance and the role of colonic microbiota and TGFβ1 growth factor in regulating the body's reactivity and the clinical manifestations of psoriasis in cases of concurrent damage to oral, cutaneous, and gastrointestinal structures.
The subject of the study is colonic microbiota and blood levels of TGFβ1 growth factor in patients with psoriasis, both with and without concurrent pathology of the dentofacial system. An imbalance of the colonic normal microbiota was detected in 120 examined patients with psoriasis; this imbalance disrupts the microbiota's tolerance toward other microbial species and influences the development of clinical manifestations of irritable bowel syndrome. The influx of pathogen-associated molecular compjunds from sites of injury in the oral cavity (in the presence of concomitant oral pathology), skin, and colon triggers a compensatory response involving the cytokine growth factor that regulates «alimentary» tolerance. The combination of the aforementioned factors, in the presence of concurrent pathology of the dentofacial system, leads to a more severe course of psoriasis. Keywords: psoriasis, dentofacial pathology, large intestine microbiota, TGFβ1, «alimentary tolerance».
